FAQ Friday: Do You Massage Kids?

Hey everyone! I have been thinking a lot about my most frequently asked questions and thought that this is a great place to answer some of them! On the first Friday of every month I will answer a question and we can discuss further in the comments if necessary. Have a question you want answered? Send me an email at info@justbreathenc.com with the subject FAQ Friday.

In the last few of months I have been asked this question a lot, "Do you massage kids?" The short answer is "yes!" They may be in smaller bodies, but our children can face large expectations and demands! On a daily basis, today's kids are dealing with schoolwork, sports, the increased use of electronics that have accompanied the pandemic, and many other physical strains. In addition to that, many kids are dealing with stress, anxiety, and even depression. Add in additional stressors like an injury, a chronic health issue, a sick family member, or a change in the family routine and you can see how our kids may very well need massages just as much (and sometimes more) then we do!

At what age can my child get a massage?

I work with children of all ages! From birth through adulthood I can help you and your child.

What should I expect at my child's appointment?

When working with kids and appointment will usually last 30-60 minutes depending on the child's age. I will sit down with you and your child to discuss the reason for your visit. We will develop a plan and I will treat your child accordingly. Whether we decide on a full body massage or an area focused massage, your child's comfort will be my number one priority. When necessary, we will also discuss stretches and/or relaxation techniques for your child to practice at home.

0-4-years-old - Whether your baby has tummy troubles such as colic or constipation, you want to help calm fussiness, build muscle function, or just promote bonding massage can be very beneficial. Because skin-on-skin contact and touch is incredibly important for boding and connecting with your child, I will teach you how to massage your baby or toddler.

5-17-years-old - I will discuss, with you and your child, the reason for your visit(s) and your goals for massage therapy. I will massage your child in accordance with the goals and plan we discuss. Parent/guardians must sign consent for their child to be massaged AND be present in the room during treatment.
