MASSAGE THERAPY

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is defined as the systematic and scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body used for establishing and maintaining good health. This type of massage is used for relaxation, stress relief, injury prevention, and much more.

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT)

Neuromuscular Therapy is the specific application of compression, pressure, and soft tissue manipulations to a particular muscle or group of muscles for the relief of pain, treatment of muscular imbalances, postural distortions, biomechanical dysfunctions, and more. This treatment will release tension in the muscles allowing fresh, oxygenated blood to circulate back into the area and flush out toxins.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Do you need a license to practice massage?

Yes! In the state of North Carolina, anyone practicing massage therapy must be licensed. I have been licensed by the state to practice massage since 2006(NC License #6438).

Do I have to take off my underwear for a massage?

It is up to you. Every client is encouraged to undress only to his or her level of comfort. Removing any clothing is always optional – I have massaged clients who remain fully dressed as well as those who feel comfortable completely undressing – either way, clients will be properly draped and covered at all times. Only the area being actively treated will be uncovered. If you are uncomfortable removing your underwear wearing briefs or short underwear will help if you your problem areas include the lower back, glutes (buttocks), hips, hamstrings, etc.

What are the benefits of massage?

There are many benefits to massage therapy, only some of which include:

  • Relieveing stress

  • Relieving pain and tension

  • Reducing blood pressure

  • Improving circulation

  • Managing depression & anxiety

  • Boosting the immune system.

Is massage right for everyone?

No. There are some cases in which massage is not indicated, which is why you will be asked to complete a medical history form prior to your first massage session. It is important that you let your therapist know if you have any health issues, allergies, or any recent changes in your health so that you can be treated safely.

Is every massage the same?

No. Each massage is tailored to the client. Health issues and client goals are considered within every session and it is important that the client feel comfortable informing the therapist if he/she is uncomfortable in any way during the massage session.
